Dancing Beethoven is a distinctive choreographic proposal that reinterprets two of Ludwig van Beethoven’s most iconic symphonies through two complementary choreographic perspectives. In this 90-minute production, the emotional monumentality of Beethoven’s music merges with the expressive power and dynamism of dance, offering an intense, vibrant, and deeply immersive stage experience.
The Fifth Symphony, choreographed by Kevin O’Day, unfolds as a physical and emotional journey through its four movements. O’Day delves into the strong contrasts of the score and guides the dancers through constantly shifting states—from the most visceral intensity to precise restraint, from the subtle to the explosive. The audience is invited to perceive the force, pressure, and impact of the music on the bodies: a space where Beethoven’s energy becomes pure movement.
Meanwhile, Jamal Callender reimagines the Seventh Symphony as a choreographic journey through the four elements—earth, water, wind, and fire—seen through the perspective of the heart. Each movement becomes an emotional landscape: earth, grounded and persistent; water, deep and reflective; wind, light and playful; and fire, intense and transformative. This elemental pilgrimage traces a celebration of the beauty of the world and of the human impulse to explore it with curiosity, freedom, and passion.
